Yesterday was a tough day. She was sleeping peacefully when I came in and I sat in a chair by her bed for once, instead of the couch. Lucky I did because a few minutes later, she threw up but then started choking on it and flailing her arms. I immediately got her sitting up which helped her vomit out the rest, then called out her door for help.
She was fine after that, but it just seemed to set the tone for the day. Every feed just seemed to go wrong, she was just so frustrated. And each time they gavaged, she would throw up a little, even if she was in her inclined nest. I would let her sleep on my chest so she could be upright and not throw up.
This morning I woke up a little early and prayed on my way in, that I could approach this day with a good attitude. I got here and took some pictures for her 3 month mark, and just enjoyed playing with her. All was going great until the nurse told me that the resident wanted me to only try breast-feeding for 10 minutes because before with the 30 minutes she would lose calories from trying so hard to latch.
This upset me a great deal because it was not nearly enough time to really give it a good try in my opinion, but the nurse said the order had not been approved by the doctor yet so I could still try the half hour if I wanted to. We also clarified that they meant if she can't latch within 10 minutes then we have to give up. But if she does latch then she can keep feeding for as long as she wants. This made me feel better and I calmed myself down before I sat with her and she latched the first try almost every single time during that feed!
12 minutes total! Her highest record to date!
Awesomely Wonderful!!
